Detectives, Inc A Remembrance of Threatening Green

Ted Denning and Bob Rainier are the New York-based agency Detectives, Inc. Ted is the stable one, happily involved with Vera, and Bob is the morose loner, a 'city-dwelling Heathcliff' trying to pick up the pieces of his life after his divorce. A midwife hires the investigators to find out who killed her lesbian lover, but they find much more.
